Congratulations on your engagement! It's an exciting time in your life, and one of the most fun things to plan is your engagement photoshoot!
Not only will these pictures capture a very special time in your lives, but they can also serve as a beautiful addition to your save-the-date cards, wedding website, or even your wedding album.
To ensure that your engagement photoshoot goes off without a hitch, I’ve got some top preparation and planning tips that will help you have the engagement shoot of your dreams!:
Polish that ring!
We need to show off that shiny new rock in your dreamy gallery so it would be such as shame if your ring isn't shining to its full potential when we do all of our boujee close-ups.
Most jewelry makers and sellers will offer engagement ring polishings at a fair price (or even for free with your purchase) and speaking from experience, it really is worth doing for your engagement shoot :)
A quick polish can really bring your ring to life and match the golden sparkle that I plan to see in the eyes of you and your fiancée/fiancé!
Location, location, location
Think about the location you'd like your engagement photos taken. It could be a place that's special to you both, like the spot where you first met or where your proposal took place.
Alternatively, you might choose a stunning natural backdrop like a beach, park, or garden that really fits the vibe of you and your partner. It’s important to choose a location that is going to put a big smile on your face, make you feel comfortable, and WOW all your friends and family on Instagram (naturally I will help out with that 😉)!
If you need any help with location ideas, or would like some info on permits, entry fees, or best time of day for a photoshoot there, let me know!
Outfits
Choosing the right outfits is crucial for your engagement photoshoot. Coordinate with your partner to ensure your outfits complement each other without being too matchy-matchy - unless that is what you are going for!
Choose something that reflects your personalities and makes you feel comfortable and confident so that we can really show off the best of you and your partner.
Lastly, please try and choose outfits that work well with the location and the vision for the shoot! I would hate for you to be uncomfortable wearing high heels on an outdoor hiking-themed shoot.
Hair and makeup
For the ladies, getting your hair and makeup done can make a big difference in your engagement photos.
Schedule a trial run with your hairstylist and makeup artist ahead of time to ensure you're happy with the final look. If you're doing your own hair and makeup, make sure to bring any touch-up items you may need on the day of the shoot.
Props and accessories
Props and accessories can add a personal touch to your engagement photos. It could be something as simple as a bouquet of flowers or a favorite book, or something more elaborate like a vintage car or balloons.
Some of my personal favorites to really spice up a photoshoot and give it a vibey Pinterest feel are bottles of champagne, or a tube of soap bubbles :)
Let me know of any ideas that you may have and we can make it happen!
A positive attitude
I know… cringe right 🙂
Letting loose, having fun, and getting lost in the moment with your special person are what these shoots are all about!
Your engagement photos should reflect the love and excitement you feel about your upcoming wedding, for your partner, and all the incredible memories you have made and are yet to make. Don't stress about being perfect, just relax and enjoy the moment with your partner :)
Now there is nothing holding you back from having a successful, beautiful, and fun-filled engagement photoshoot that captures your love and personality.
I hope that you use this list as a guide to get your planning started and those ideas simmering! I can’t wait to share these special moments with you and create your very own beautiful gallery!
Congratulations again on your engagement, and have fun creating memories that will last a lifetime!
